Don’t Think About It

A photo series by Wyatt Collins

You will die. Someday. And every physical trace of your existence will fade away—along with everything you've touched, seen, or interacted with. And that's okay. Say it with me: that is okay. Whether you like it or not, you are going to die. That means you need to figure out what this all means: this being you, your existence, your purpose, your actions, your relationships. What do you believe? What questions linger in your mind? In such a short time alive, what do you value in life to make it meaningful?

The title of this work, Don't Think About It, examines the questions and answers I have gathered up until this point. It explores the questions I carry into the future; what it feels like to age into the last chapter, not how will I die, but how will I feel about my death when it arrives? As well as questions from the past, how have my experiences shaped my view of the world? Why was I granted to live? Why here and why now?  These are questions, we’d like not to think about. These questions allow us to find what we value most in life and others not at all.

As time passes, some questions find answers while others remain mysteries. With age and experience, new questions emerge, shaped by the wisdom we gain. Through this work, I hope viewers reflect on their lives—past and future—and consider what they value. Even in the search for meaning, knowing that there may be none one day, holds significance.
